“Be doers of the word and not hearers only”- James 1:22
What you do speaks so loud that I cannot hear what you say” -Ralph Waldo Emerson
To truly be a Knight of Columbus takes more than a membership card and paid up dues. In light of the quotes above, being a Knight is a call to service, to discipleship, to demonstrate faith by actions, not words. It is not enough to have faith; it must be actualized and lived out daily. You are what you do; conduct reveals character.
If you agree, then as a Knight, I ask you to respond to me, in writing, your answer to the question following: “Why am I a Knight?” Send it to at mbond@adwdeacon.org. If you can, please also include a photo of yourself or your family. In the coming weeks I would like to share them on this webpage with our brother Knights and anyone interested in becoming a Knight.
It’s a great way for us to know one another better as brother Knights and the men of our parish to know us. More importantly, it provides an opportunity to more deeply commit ourselves to our pledge of fealty to Our Lady, Queen of the Knights. For us, Pope Francis’ call to the New Evangelization includes inviting “practical Catholic men” to join with us since our Order provides opportunities for service to our family (the domestic church), our parish faith community, our neighbors, and our country. It also offers a variety of ways for us to grow in our faith and deepen our understanding its teachings.
When I became the Grand Knight, I envisioned this year as one in which we would better serve our parish by not only growing through attracting Catholic men of new and growing families, but more importantly, by having greater participation by our existing members. Throughout the upcoming Lenten, Easter, and Pentecost seasons, Msgr. Thomas M. Wells Council 13008, its officers, its dedicated brother Knights, and I remain committed to these objectives.
