Meet Father Blake!

Archbishop Gregory has assigned Father Blake Evans as Parochial Vicar Saint Andrew Apostle Catholic Church, with special ministry to the Catholic Hispanic community at the Catholic Charities Center, effective July 7, 2021.

Father Blake Evans was ordained both a Deacon and Priest by Cardinal Wuerl in 2009 and 2010, respectively (he’s a “classmate” of Fr. Mel who studied at Theological College in DC). Fr. Evans studied at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD where he majored in Systematic Theology (Doctrine); he served as a Master of Ceremonies, sang in the Spanish Choir and Contemporary Choirs and was the communication coordinator for “Mount Charisma” Prayer group. In 2009, Fr. Evans was inducted into the National Honors Society for Communication (Lambda Pi Eta) through Mount St. Mary’s University; he is an alumni of the Mount University as well as the Institute for Priest Formation at Creighton University and the University of Central Florida.

Prior to seminary, he was a Senior Editor at Hanley-Wood Publishing in Washington, the media giant known globally for its flagship magazines BUILDER Magazine & Big Builder and other real estate/built environment magazines. Prior to Washington, Father Evans lived in Winter Park, Fla. (Diocese of Orlando) and Atlanta worked in marketing in the building/design industries in Atlanta Orlando and South Florida. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, his parents were US Government officials there who helped build Fort Buchanan and his father (a Southern Baptist Deacon) was part of the team that built the Kennedy Space Center.

Local Trivia: Father Evans was part of the team they helped build Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine in Orlando under Bishop Thomas Grady (who was once the former Rector of the Basilica in Washington). Locally he has served the ADW at St. Jude’s Shrine, St. John Neumann, St. Martin of Tours, Holy Comforter St. Cyprian, St. Thomas Apostle, St. Raphael, St. Joseph Beltsville, Nativity Parish DC, Mother Seton parishes and the former “Centro de Liderazgo” at Mision San Andres. He is bilingual English/Spanish, enjoys film, non-fiction reading and international news, Church History and Hagiography, music, snow skiing and sailing.

Trivia: Fr. Evans was baptized by a Priest of Oblates of Mary Immaculate who was from Washington. The ADW region has been with him since birth. His patron saint is St. Raphael the Archangel. He has one sister and 3 brothers and 7 nephew/nieces and five “grands.”
