Consecration to Saint Joseph

Preparation: February 15 – March 19, 2021

Consecration: March 19, 2021

If Joseph was so engaged, heart and soul, in protecting and providing for that little family at Nazareth, don’t you think that now in heaven he is the same loving father and guardian of the whole Church, of all its members, as he was of its head on earth?”

Ven. Pope Pius XII

Pope Francis has proclaimed this as the “Year of Saint Joseph”

Pope Francis announced a special year dedicated to Saint Joseph from December 8, 2020 until December 8, 2021. In this special year, we invite you to begin a 33-day journey on Monday, February 15 to prepare for the Consecration to Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Patron of the Universal Church. The preparation will continue until the Consecration on March 19, the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, when Mass will be celebrated beginning at 7:00pm and followed by the Stations of the Cross.

Just as Jesus and Mary entrusted themselves entirely to the care of protection of Saint Joseph as the head of the Holy Family, so too are we encouraged to follow their example.

What does it mean for a person to be consecrated to Saint Joseph?

You acknowledge that Saint Joseph is your spiritual father and you want to be like him. You entrust yourself entirely into his paternal care so that he can help you acquire his virtues and become holy. Total consecration to Saint Joseph means you make a formal act of filial entrustment to your spiritual father so that he can take care of your spiritual well-being and lead you to God. The person who consecrates himself to Saint Joseph wants to be as close to him as possible, to the point of resembling him in virtue and holiness. The formal act of consecration will take place on March 19 during the Mass or you can recite the consecration prayer from your home.

Preparation materials are available to draw you closer to Saint Joseph in the 6 weeks leading up to consecration. Small printed booklets can be obtained in the narthex of the church, at the Rectory Office, or you can access the electronic file <HERE>.

Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer,
Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
To you God entrusted his only Son;
in you Mary placed her trust;
with you Christ became man.

Blessed Joseph, to us too,
show yourself a father
and guide us in the path of life.
Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage,
and defend us from every evil. Amen.

Pope Francis, Patris corde
