Vision 2013-2014: Intentionally Christ’s

VISION 2013

Father Dan Leary convened three small group meetings during the Summer and Fall of 2013. The groups were comprised of a cross-section of our parish leaders and other active parishioners and provided an opportunity for them to share their thoughts on how the parish can best move toward the goal of evangelization that is inherent in our baptismal promises.  Father Dan shared his own vision for the future of the parish and provided information on some of the initiatives that he has been preparing.

In preparation for these meetings, participants were asked to read Sherry Weddel’s book, Forming Intentional Disciples: A Path to Knowing and Following Jesus. As first steps in fostering a culture of discipleship at Saint Andrew’s, Father Dan held a parish-wide Called and Gifted Workshop in February 2014. A Forming Intentional Disciples Retreat will be held for the parish in September 2014. Both of these programs are offered by the Catherine of Siena Institute which was founded by Sherry Weddell and Father Michael Sweeney, O.P.

If you did not attend one of the Vision 2013 meetings but would like the opportunity to read the book and provide your thoughts, Father Dan invites you to do so. Please read Father Dan’s invitation from the October 9, 2013 bulletin here.

The PowerPoint presentation from the Vision meetings may be found here.

UPCOMING EVENTS

THE CALLED AND GIFTED PROCESS

Called and Gifted is a 3-part discernment process offered by the Catherine of Siena Institute that is intended to help lay Catholics discern their charisms. Charisms, or spiritual gifts, are graces of the Holy Spirit which directly or indirectly benefit the Church.

Step 1: Called and Gifted Workshop

This workshop was held in February 2014.  Participants learned:

  • The role of every Catholic and of the local parish in the mission of the Church to the world.
  • The critical role of charisms in the life and service of other lay Catholics and in the life of the parish or Christian community.
  • The signs and characteristics of 24 common charisms.
  • How discerning and using your charisms can change your life and the life of others, your parish, and the world.

Step 2: One Hour Personal Gifts Interview

Those who completed the Called and Gifted Workshop may choose to have a Personal Gifts Interview. Interviewers trained by the Catherine of Siena Institute will help you look at your spiritual gifts inventory results, listen to your experiences of being used by God, help you recognize patterns in your life that may indicate the presence of a charism and help you choose one charism to discern.

Interviews are being conducted now. Contact Therese Errigo at rciasaa@gmail.com or 301-649-3700 for more information.

Step 3: Discernment in Depth

Participants will have an opportunity to practice what they have learned about discernment and experiment with one charism over a period of 8 weeks beginning in May. Small group discussion (5 sessions) will allow the opportunity to talk about the experience and feedback they’ve received with others that are also discerning.

Schedule:

  • Session 1: Review of Charisms: Why Discern Charisms?
  • Session 2: Releasing Control: Prayer for Healing
  • Session 3: The Lay and Ordained Offices: Collaboration and Interdependence
  • Session 4: Gift Mix
  • Session 5: Discerning Your Vocation

Completion of Steps 1 and 2 are a prerequisite for participation in Discernment in Depth. Contact Lisa Longacre at lisalongacre@yahoo.com for more information.
