Hurricane Maria brought catastrophic winds to Puerto Rico, which had just been hitby Hurricane Irma, when it made landfall early in the morning on September 20. The Convent buildings were completely destroyed, affecting approximately 20 sick and elderly sisters and those who care for them. There is no electricity in place and communication is not available. The eastern part of the island has at least 10 families that lost everything and they fear there are many more like them. The Sisters are helping to provide food and medical services to those most affected by the storm.

The Dominican Sisters of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima are a Puerto Rican religious Congregation of Pontifical Right, founded in 1949 in Yauco, Puerto Rico, by the Servant of God Mother M. Dominga Guzmán Florit, OP, who are affiliated with the Order of Preachers. Their motto is, “Bringing Christ to the Family and the Family to Christ.”
